Jup Exchange: A Review of Jupiter on Solana
Jup exchange is the name many traders use for Jupiter, the swap aggregator at jup.ag that has become the default way to trade tokens on Solana. Jupiter does not hold its own order book for swaps: it searches Solana's decentralized exchanges and splits an order across them to find the best output. Around that core it has built limit and recurring orders, a perpetual futures exchange with up to 250x on SOL, ETH and wBTC, a lending market and the JUP governance token. DefiLlama shows about $725 million locked in the Jupiter Perps liquidity pool on October 15, 2026, which makes it one of the largest on-chain perpetual venues by collateral.
What Jupiter is
Jupiter started in 2021 as a routing engine for Solana. A swap request goes to its router, which checks prices across the network's AMMs and order books — Raydium, Orca, Meteora and many others — and returns a route that may pass through several pools. The trader signs one transaction and receives the output token in a self-custody wallet. No account is opened and no deposit sits with Jupiter between trades.
Because so many wallets, apps and bots integrate its routing, a large share of Solana's token swaps passes through Jupiter even when users never visit jup.ag directly.
The products
Swaps
The main swap screen accepts any pair of Solana tokens. Settings that matter:
- Slippage tolerance — how far the final price may move from the quote before the transaction fails.
- Priority fees — an extra fee that helps a transaction land quickly when the network is busy.
- Token verification — Jupiter flags tokens that have not passed its verification, a useful warning on a network where new tokens appear constantly.
Limit and recurring orders
A limit order executes when the market reaches your price, with the tokens held by a program until it fills or you cancel it. Recurring orders, also known as DCA, split a purchase into equal parts over a chosen period, for example buying SOL with USDC every day for a month.
Jupiter Perps
Jupiter's perpetual futures exchange lets traders go long or short with leverage. According to the Jupiter Perps FAQ, it offers nine markets: SOL, ETH and wBTC against the JLP pool, plus six beta markets. Maximum leverage when opening a position is 250x on SOL, ETH and wBTC and 20x on the beta markets.
Costs on the main markets are:
- A base fee of 0.06% of position size on open and on close.
- A price impact fee that grows with trade size.
- A borrow fee that accrues on the full position for as long as it is open.
Trades fill against the pool at an oracle price, not against other traders' orders. This avoids slippage on a thin book, but the borrow fee makes long-held positions expensive.
JLP, the liquidity pool
JLP is the token for the pool that takes the other side of Jupiter Perps trades. It holds a basket of SOL, ETH, BTC and stablecoins. Holders earn most of the trading and borrow fees generated by the perps exchange, and take the opposite exposure to traders: when traders win, the pool loses, and the reverse.
Lending and the JUP token
Jupiter Lend, the protocol's lending market, held about $1.1 billion on October 15, 2026, per DefiLlama. JUP, launched in January 2024 with an airdrop to past users, is the governance token: holders vote on proposals through Jupiter's DAO.

How Jupiter compares with an order-book venue
Jupiter Perps and order-book perpetual exchanges solve the same problem in different ways.
| Feature | Jupiter Perps | EVEDEX |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Solana | Arbitrum (layer 2) |
| How trades fill | Against the JLP pool at an oracle price | Central order book, off-chain matching |
| Markets | 9 | 52 perpetual contracts |
| Maximum leverage | 250x on SOL, ETH, wBTC | 200x on BTC, ETH, SOL up to $50,000 notional |
| Trading fees | 0.06% open and close, plus borrow fee | 0.015% maker, 0.045% taker |
| Margin | Single-position collateral | Cross margin in USDT |
Jupiter Perps FAQ and EVEDEX trading terms, read September 16 to October 15, 2026.
EVEDEX is a hybrid perpetual futures exchange: orders are matched off-chain and positions settle on-chain on Arbitrum. Besides crypto, EVEDEX lists five US stocks, gold, silver, WTI crude oil and two FX pairs, all trading 24/7. The comparison is mostly about structure. A pool-based venue gives instant fills at the oracle price and charges for time in the market; an order book charges a maker or taker fee and leaves the price to the book.
Risks to weigh
- Smart contract and oracle risk. Perps depend on price oracles; a delayed or manipulated feed affects liquidations.
- Token risk on swaps. New Solana tokens appear by the thousand. Unverified tokens can be copies with familiar names or have contracts that block selling.
- Network congestion. During busy periods transactions can fail or need high priority fees.
- JLP exposure. JLP holders earn fees but carry both the price risk of the basket and the profit-and-loss of traders.
- Leverage. At 250x, a move of well under 0.5% against a position is enough to liquidate it once fees and maintenance margin are counted.
How to start on jup.ag
- Install a Solana wallet such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack, and fund it with SOL for fees.
- Open jup.ag from a bookmark or the address in Jupiter's official documentation.
- Connect the wallet, pick the pair, review the route, price impact and minimum received.
- Sign the transaction and check the result in a Solana block explorer.
Who Jupiter suits
Jupiter suits Solana users who want the best available swap price without comparing DEXs by hand, traders who want limit and recurring orders without a centralized account, and perpetual traders who prefer oracle-priced fills on the three largest assets. Traders who want stocks, metals or FX next to crypto, or who prefer maker and taker fees to borrow fees, will look at order-book venues instead.
